Children 1st Arctic Trek aided by Foundation

Monday, 20 January 2020

Keith Sands and Allan Preston are taking on the Arctic from January 20th for 6 nights in temperatures which can go to -40 trekking the most is 22 miles in 1 day.  The guys will be sleeping in 2 man tents.  Allan sent the following message as a thank you to the Mary Leishman Foundation for supporting the trek in a practical way:

"We are going on behalf of children 1st who asked me to do it and I roped Keith in to join me.  We spoke to Leish and he kindly said The Mary Leishman Foundation would want to help which they have by funding our substantial kit need to stay alive, we are having to train for 8 months which we are doing and thanks to Nuffield gym in edinburgh they have kindly given us our own PT a guy called Jordan Taylor and he’s putting us through our paces to get us fit.

"I've had both hips resurfaced and Keith has done nothing since school!  We both turned 50 this year so called it couch to Arctic ???? so far we have had a golf day and a afternoon with Tam Cowan and raised £30,000 although it won’t reflect that on our just giving page as we have children 1st staff at our events and we just hand them the money.  We are both very grateful to the Mary Leishman Foundation for what they have done for us both it’s such a kind gesture, plus it will be invaluable when we are actually doing our trek!

Good luck to them both and we look forward to hearing their tales of survival upon their return!
